Health Needs Assessment and Health Intervention Trip to Liming Township, Lijiang City in Yunnan Province 

CCOUC sent a team of 27 trainers and trainees to Liguang Village, Liming Township, Yulong County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province during 24-29 June 2018 in order to conduct a health needs assessment and to provide health education for the villagers. The team conducted a household survey in Liguang Village. Data related to the demographics, the use of telecommunication devices in an emergency and other health issues were collected for research purposes. Health promotion activities on dental health, waste management, elderly care and the use of oral rehydration solutions were organised by the team for primary school students and the general public respectively. With over than150 villagers participated in the talks, dramas and interactive games, we hope we can raise up the awareness and enhance their knowledge on public health issues.

In addition to the health needs assessment and the health intervention in Liguang Village, the team also participated in a training session organised by the Yunnan Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Yunnan CDC). Deputy Director Xiwen Zhao of the Yunnan CDC delivered a lecture on emergency preparedness and response in the face of natural hazards. Mr Cheuk Pong Chiu, clinical tutor of CCOUC, also shared his humanitarian field work experiences with the participants and delivered a lecture on ‘The Sphere Project: Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response’. The training session allowed participants’ understanding on what the Yunnan CDC has been doing for health protection and the strategies of the Provincial Government in managing the problems caused by natural hazards.
