Health Intervention trip to Yunnan

CCOUC team of 12 visited a remote rural village in Yunnan Province on 25-28 April 2014.

The Guai Village (拐村) of Zhuang minority (壮族) is six hours’ drive away from the provincial capital Kunming in the mountainous eastern part of the province. A health needs assessment trip was conducted earlier in October 2014. Both trips were facilitated by our NGO partner in the province, Partners in Hope, which is helping the village improve the quality of its water supply.

This village is under the threat of landslide and suffers from extreme poverty, with an annual household income of around RMB1,700 (around USD280). The UN national poverty line is USD1.25 per person per day.

Three sessions of health interventions including anti-smoking, oral rehydration therapy and basic hygiene were conducted in the village. Team members included one from the Netherlands and one from Germany.
