The Inaugural Planetary Health/Geohealth Annual Meeting in Boston, USA

Former CCOUC member and current PhD student Ms Janice Ho attended the Inaugural Planetary Health/Geohealth Annual Meeting held at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA from 29 to 30 April 2017. The conference was hosted by The Planetary Health Alliance, along with the American Geophysical Union, the Ecological Society of America, The Lancet, The Rockefeller Foundation, Wellcome Trust, and the Harvard University Center for the Environment. The inaugural Annual Meeting brought together experts and early-career researchers from around the world to exchange ideas and showcase the latest research and institutional developments taking place in the field of planetary health.

Ms Ho was involved as a Speaker Ambassador, where she delivered social media coverage during the talk by Dr Robin Bronen, a climate justice and human rights lawyer working with Alaska Native communities on climate-induced relocation. Ms Ho also joined the Mentorship Lunch to connect with leaders in the planetary health field and other early-career researchers. Ms Ho’s attendance to this conference was supported by a travel scholarship awarded by the Planetary Health Alliance.

The Annual Meeting was an important event for the global movement towards understanding the human health impact of global environmental change and for networking among scholars and experts in the emerging field of planetary health.
