17th Scientific Committee Meeting of the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR)

On 23 May 2017, three CCOUC members participated in the 17th IRDR Scientific Committee meeting in Cancun, Mexico. The Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) is a decade-long research programme co-sponsored by the International Council for Science (ICSU), the International Social Science Council (ISSC), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). It is comprised of Co-Sponsors, a Science Committee, the International Programme Office, Projects, National and Regional Committees, and International Centres of Excellence (ICoEs). CCOUC has been one of the 12 International Centres of Excellence under IRDR since November 2016.

During the 17th Scientific Committee meeting, CCOUC listened to the latest work of other colleagues within IRDR, and participated in discussions relating to future IRDR initiatives and the upcoming Science and Technology for Disaster Resilience 2017 Conference, to be held in Tokyo, Japan in November 2017. Ms Gloria Chan, CCOUC Assistant Director, also delivered a presentation highlighting the latest achievements and research activities of CCOUC. Overall, this meeting represented a meaningful opportunity for CCOUC to meet and have a deeper understanding of other colleagues’ work within the IRDR network.
